Post-apocalyptic

Title: The Road

Author: Cormac McCarthy

Publisher: New York ; Alfred A. Knopf, 2006

This Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy tells a haunting tale of a man and his son fighting for survival in a nightmarish post-apocalyptic future.

Driven by his desire to find safety for his young son, our protagonist sets off on a menacing journey to the coast before the harsh winter comes. Facing starvation and cannibals, their journey is bleak, but the man holds on to the memories of the world he remembers and the promise of “the sea”.

McCarthy’s lyrical writing beautifully illustrates the desperation and hope in a hopeless setting, creating an atmosphere that stays with the reader. Adapted in to an award-winning movie in 2009, The Road is a book you will want to read and reread.
